Jesus and Atlas
In my sermon this past weekend on 'Deep Rest,' -- many persons commented on the story, first penned by Bruce Larson, contrasting, the statues of Jesus and Atlas found at the heart of New York City. Find that excerpt, from my message, below. The photos used in the sermon are found above.
"Once, Bruce Lawson tried to help a New York executive, with his control needs. And so they walked to the large statue of Atlas that stands in front of Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. As you might guess, Atlas is straining and struggling to carry the world on his shoulders. But then, Larson took the executive across the street to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. And there, behind the high altar, they found a statue of the boy Jesus -- also carrying the world, represented by a small orb in his hand. But unlike Atlas, Jesus is not straining or struggling; He’s radiating peace. And then it dawned on the executive: he had a choice -- continue to carry the world and struggle like Atlas – or – give control of the world -- including his world – to God – and know peace like Jesus." (Bruce Larson, in Believe and Belong).

This symbolic imagery comparison is so powerful for the human mind to understand.
ReplyDeleteI would hope to get this image of Christ holding the world also on the outside in front of St. Patrick's church (same size as the Atlas)as as sign for all souls to perhaps comprehend the difference.
Ironically, today was part of the Chicago Cardinal Blase Joseph Cupich sermon on the subject.
And I have also used this same Infant Jesus of Prague in two small scenes in two upcoming films. SunnyFilms.World
Let those cucks worship their idols.
ReplyDeleteLet God expose these clowns
I completely agree with the above comment. Even without the imagery, the comparison of Atlas’ muscles straining under the weight of carrying the world while quietly, gently baby Jesus is holding the world in his small hand as if it is ounces-the weight of a bouncy ball. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy agreement is with the comment from 2020 by a filmmaker. I do not agree at all with hateful commentary such as the Feb 2024 comment
