Yes God's Work is Sovereign -- God's Work is Supreme.
But our work, in God's Name -- is vital and required as well. And so recognize God as Supreme -- and don't overwork. Develop a healthy rhythm, and take breaks. Remember the Sabbath.
But then rise up and serve the Lord and do your part -- do your work -- in whatever occupation your chose.
For God's best work - God's best ministry doesn't happen through pastors or professional ministers.
But God's best ministry happens in the marketplace -- in schools -- in government offices -- as you live out your true vocation -- which is not your occupation -- whether teaching, managing money or some other professional role.
But being a servant of Jesus -- letting His light shine, through your broken, but available 'form and frame.'
There’s a classic piece about God’s willingness to use broken, surrendered folk. For many doubt that God could ever use us. But the next time you doubt remember -- just remember your Bible.
- That Noah was a drunk.
- Abraham was too old.
- Isaac was a daydreamer.
- Jacob was a liar.
- Leah was ugly.
- Joseph was abused.
- Moses had a stuttering problem.
- Gideon was afraid.
- Sampson was a womanizer.
- Rahab was a prostitute.
- Jeremiah and Timothy were too young.
- David had an affair.
- Elijah was suicidal.
- Isaiah preached naked.
- Jonah ran from God.
- Naomi was a widow.
- Job went bankrupt.
- John the Baptist ate bugs.
- Peter denied Christ.
- The Disciples couldn’t stay awake praying.
- Martha worried about everything.
- The Samaritan woman was divorced.
- Zacchaeus was too small.
- Paul was too religious.
- Timothy had an ulcer.
- And Lazarus was dead!”
Yes -- remember your Bible, and remember that God wants to use even you.
Yes – you’re broken. Yes, you’re sinful.
But if you’re available, willing and
surrendered – who knows what God will do with you!
And so go forth wondering, praying: who knows what God will do with me?!
And so go forth wondering, praying: who knows what God will do with me?!
For when
our work becomes ultimately the work of God -- transforming, enlightening
outcomes result – far brighter than those of any mere occupation.
Now don’t do the work of God as if God
is not working. Translated: recognize
His Sovereignty. 'Take a breath.’ Remember the rhythm of Sabbath.
But then rise up and work nevertheless – giving heart,
mind and soul not to widgets or the bottom line – but to the Kingdom of God, God’s upside down Kingdom, that majors in:
- small things, not big things
- overlooked things, not prominent things
- discarded things, not cherished things.
Breathing into everything -- even the least, lost and lonely...
...the very breath of God
...the very breath of life!
...the very breath of God
...the very breath of life!
