Information -- Or -- Wisdom?

I'm amazed at how many of us confuse information for truth.

But information  -- though it surrounds us and bombards us -- does not transform us. Only "...the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God..."  (Romans 11:33) -- Paul sings -- truly transforms us.

Now when I say information bombards, I'm not kidding.  I mean did you realize:  we now receive five times as much information every day as we did in 1986?  And for good reason:  why just the information transmitted through e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and text messages, produces six newspapers full of information, compared with two and a half newspaper pages, 24 years ago; nearly a 200-fold increase!

But there's more:  all that information needs storing, resulting in the equivalent of 600,000 books archived on our computers!

The outcome?  A sense of being overwhelmed!  But not overwhelmed by hope and rescue, but overwhelmed by despair and entrapment.

But God doesn't want us overwhelmed by such darkness. God wants us overwhelmed by light!

Recently I increased my exercise routine, walking around the circle that marks our development at least two times every night between 9-10 pm -- close to two miles.  But in spite of Robin's admonishment -- I never carry a flashlight.  I mean:  real men don't need flashlights -- right?

But the other night I got thinking:  real men might very well be advised to carry flashlights -- because this 'real man' -- almost got hit by a speeding car, whizzing around the neighborhood the other night -- because he wasn't carrying a flashlight.

God's wisdom is like a flashlight.  Not a floodlight -- like the information explosion characterizing our day.  But a flashlight -- providing just enough light, just enough insight -- for the  next step.  Psalm 119:105 says it best:  "thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path..."     (Psalm 119:105).

But it's our choice whether we access it.  Friends:  you might think you can find your way around in the dark.  But I wouldn't chance it!

And so I'm making a commitment today to access the light -- not only for my nightly walk - but my daily walk -- as well.
